History
This car was purchased at a Ford dealer in Trondheim,
Norway in June 1978 by my father. Originally it was a 2,1 diesel, MKII series 1,
base model.
After receiving my drivers license
in 1979, my father gave the car too me.
The original engine wore out after 200.000 km. A thorough rebuilding,
including new cylinders and pistons.
A five speed gearbox from a Sierra 2,0 was
mounted, with some adjustments with the speedometer gear and a change of the
ingoing axel
before the whole ting was right. I put another 200.000 km on.
An acquaintance of mine found in 1983, a totaled 1981 model Ghia 2,8 injection with leather interior and air condition, loaded, in Germany. This car had roof damage, it was removed. The body was cut in half, to avoid import taxes. I also bought the roof of a GL model, no vinyl, with sun roof. All the equipment from the wrecked Ghia, with the exception of the automatic transmission was mounted in the totally striped, original body, and the roof was changed.
The restoration was approved by the Norwegian motor vehicle department summer 1984.
In December 1985, on icy winter roads, a rather large 4
wheel drive tractor with snow chains on all four wheels, decided to drive into
the road in front of me and I was unable to avoid a collision.
Extensive damage on air condition, water pump, power steering and of course
large body damage. Damages appraised at 110.000 NOK.
The insurance company sold the wreck back to me, and I
started restoration again. This meant another trip to Germany to find a suitable
front end, since I had sold both the front and the back end from the last trip.
As a subscriber of the German car magazine "Auto Motor und Sport", I
had learned about a company in Osnabrück,
called Eichberg GmbH that sells all kinds of tuning gear for all European Ford models.
(See link page). The old Mr. Eichberg delivered that time, for a Sierra XR4i, a complete turbo set,
containing a KKK 3 LKZ turbocharger, Racimex oil cooler, a "pop-off"
valve, intercooler and
reinforced cylinder head gaskets.
He also managed, overnight to produce a exhaust system to the Granada.
Total price for this was 16.000 NOK.
To make space for all of this, the AC had to go, not a
difficult choice since it was badly damaged, additionally the climate in Norway
precludes the necessity of such an installation.
The vehicle was back on the road summer 1986, now in better shape then ever.
This car was completely restored in both 1986 and 1990 with anti corrosion
coating in all profiles
This car will last forever. Since 1990, the car has not been driven on winter
roads nor has it ever seen salt. ( I my area they didn't start to salt the winter
roads before 1990)
MY GRANADA IS NOT FOR SALE
In the winter I drive my Sierra 2,8i XR 4X4 with
165/65-14 studded tires and ABS.
This is an amazing combination, a better winter car does not exist.

My son Johan Jørgen, born July `98, here 14 months old, is also interested in cars
